Since this morning, the phenomenon Pokémon Go, the augmented reality game developed by the group The Pokémon Company, is now available in France on Android and iOS.
Pokémon Go is based on a simple and innovative principle. The goal is to capture virtual Pokémon in the real world, through its smartphone.
Pokémon Go, an international phenomenon victim of its success
The Pokémon Go game that has been available for more than two weeks around the world, including North America, Oceania and many other countries in Europe, was originally to be launched on July 15th in France. Following the attack in Nice, out of respect for the victims, the launch of the application was postponed for the first time. Victims of its success, the Pokémon Go servers crashed, following a strong influx after the launch in Japan. This caused the second shift of the official release in France.
A phenomenon launched before its release
Pokémon Go fans in France did not wait for the official release to start playing. Indeed, a good number of the population had already downloaded the game on Android smartphones, thanks to alternative methods. Some resorted to the use of proxy. For others it's the use of alternative app markets in the Google Play Store. For owners of an iPhone, the installation was also possible but more complicated.
Although the game was not yet available, population gatherings to "capture pokémons" have been created in some places. The National Gendarmerie had already taken the lead by launching warning messages. She calls on people to stay alert while playing Pokémon Go.
