Since this morning, the phenomenon Pokémon Go, the augmented reality game developed by the group The Pokémon Company, is now available in France on Android and iOS.
Pokémon Go is based on a simple and innovative principle. The goal is to capture virtual Pokémon in the real world, through its smartphone.
Pokémon Go, an international phenomenon victim of its success
The Pokémon Go game, which has been available for more than two weeks across the world, including North America, Oceania and many other countries in Europe, was originally scheduled to launch on July 15 in France. Following the Nice attack, out of respect for the victims, the launch of the application was postponed for the first time. Victim of its great success, the servers of Pokémon Go crashed, following too many crowds after the launch in Japan. This led to the delay a second time of the official release in France.
A phenomenon launched before its release
Pokémon Go fans in France did not wait for the official release to start playing. Indeed, a good number of the population had already downloaded the game on Android smartphones, thanks to alternative methods. Some have resorted to using proxies. For others it is the use of alternative application markets to the Google Play Store. For iPhone owners, the installation was also possible but more complicated.
Although the game was not yet available, gatherings of people to "capture pokémons" were created in some places. The National Gendarmerie had therefore already taken the lead by issuing warning messages. She appeals to the population to remain vigilant while playing Pokémon Go.
