Next November, the Tobacco Free Month, an unprecedented tobacco control initiative will be launched in France. The goal is to help smokers to quit smoking in a sustainable way.
National No Tobacco Month
The operation called “Moi (s) sans tabac” will be launched in a few weeks, from November 1 and will last a full month. This operation was first considered by the State. Indeed, it undertakes to provide French people with an aid kit as well as brochures aimed at supporting smokers wishing to quit smoking. Concretely, we do not yet know what will contain the aid kit, we can expect patches, chewing gum. The kit will be available for order from tomorrow on the website http://www.tabac-info-service.fr/. It will then be made available free of charge in pharmacies in November. This operation is tempting, as much by the fact that it is free, as by the desire to quit smoking for good.
An operation that can work?
Personally, I think that all the material tools (patches, chewing gum, etc.) made available to French people can help some smokers to quit smoking. But these material tools will remain “crutches”. And without a real desire to question the reasons and habits of everyone in relation to tobacco, I think that these “crutches” will only have a temporary effect for longer-term smokers. The question you have to ask yourself is whether you really want to stop smoking altogether? If you don't want to quit completely, the Tobacco Free Month kit will at least help to slow down.
Complete operation
Far from stopping at this kit and the brochure, the Ministry of Health has completely redesigned the Tobacco Info Service app for the occasion. This will allow smokers to be accompanied in a more suitable way for their quitting.
A similar operation was launched in Great Britain and had a great success. It remains to be seen if this will work for the French.
